FLYNN were delighted to have again been recognised as industry leaders in Health & Safety, this time by the prestigious FM Awards in Ireland. At the ceremony in Dublin, we were commended particularly for our Boost initiative that supports staff and supply chain in a wide range of lifestyle and health issues including diet, mental health and work life balance

FLYNN were celebrating after winning the Health and Wellbeing award at the British Chambers of Commerce’s annual Chamber Business Awards 2017 in London. The Chamber Business Awards is one of the showpiece events in the business calendar, highlighting the role of business in delivering growth and prosperity for the UK and local communities.

FLYNN were proud to be presented with the Health & Wellbeing award at the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce’s Regional Business Awards.

The award recognised the innovation and effort made by FLYNN HR and H&S departments to develop what we call FLYNN-Boost, an integrated strategy to assist our people avail of life style improvement opportunities.

The Team from FLYNN were delighted to attend the CEF Construction Excellence Awards Gala dinner(along with Barry McGuigan) where they were awarded top honours in H&S, having also won this category in 2016. FLYNN were also proud to be finalists in two other categories, Health Infrastructure and Training.

FLYNN were delighted to have been shortlisted for CEF/Specify Magazine awards for Construction Excellence.

Past winners of the Health & Safety and Training Awards, we were again finalists in these two important categories and, far from resting on our laurels, had made further improvements and investment in both these foundations of our successful business.

FLYNN were delighted to be finalists for the Career Inspiration award, which we won in 2016.

Career development is a focus of the business and significant investment has been made into training, personal development and succession planning at every level throughout the business. This allows staff to see their career path and marry personal development to business objectives and the achievement of success at both levels.

FLYNN were delighted to have been shortlisted as Finalists in two categories in the Irish Construction Awards. Our refurbishment of the Belfast Waterfront Hall was a Finalist under the ‘Tourism and Hospitality Project’. In addition, our class-leading training structures was recognised by our shortlisting under the ‘Excellence in Education and Training’ category where we competed with several much larger companies and Institutes of Education.

FLYNN were shortlisted as finalists at the Fit Out Awards 2017 in two categories; Fit Out Project Manager of the Year-Mark Murphy and Fit Out Project of the Year-Belfast City Hospital ICU Refurbishment. These recognitions highlight the exemplary standards which are upheld on site and delivered, as a result of our values, working ethos and also due to the depth of knowledge and experience held by our people.

FLYNN were delighted to be shortlisted as finalists in two categories for the HR Leadership &Management Awards. FLYNN were delighted to be awarded a Distinction at the Annual All Ireland Safety Awards in Killarney, run in conjunction with Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG). The Awards recognised how organisations manage health and safety at work.

FLYNN once again proved our dedication to improving staff skills with a double success in the Quality Performance category of the Construction Excellence Awards. The company was shortlisted in four categories and came out on top in two sections-winning both the Health & Safety Award and the Training Award.

FLYNN were delighted to have been shortlisted as Finalists in 4 categories of the industry’s top awards, the CEF/Specify Construction Excellence Awards 2016.Our new build school St Josephs and our refurbishment of the Waterfront Hall were both selected. In addition, the company was shortlisted for its Health & Safety and Training.

Our very own triple award winner, apprentice plumber Aaron Keenan, received his awards from Marie-Therese McGivern (CEO Belfast Met)with Aidan Flynn (MD, FLYNN) and his father.

The judges stated our entry was head and shoulders above the competition and recognised the long term commitment within our business to offer opportunity to young people, support and develop their capabilities and offer a sustainable path for progression.

Flynn were delighted to have been shortlisted in three categories in the prestigious Irish construction Industry Awards 2016. Our three Finalist nominations showcase our recent projects in Education, Conservation and our focus on Health & Safety

We were delighted to have been shortlisted in the category ‘Waste Management & Environmental Excellence’. Our shortlisting reflects the great strides the company takes to address the impact of all our operations on the environment and to implement innovative measures to reduce waste, consumption and inefficiency.

FLYNN were delighted to have been finalists with our partners, Springvale Employment & Learning in the Department for Employment & Learning Awards for Apprentice of the Year 2015.Our two organisations developed a close working relationship based on the mutual principles and goals of providing employment opportunities to young people and to provide them with the skills for sustainable employment.

We were delighted to have been shortlisted for the finals of the Irish News Workplace &Employment Awards 2015. Both our entries were selected, namely for the ‘Career Inspiration Award’ drawing upon our award-winning Apprenticeship and Training programmes and also the ‘Green Award’, reflecting our progress on reducing the impact of our activities on natural resources.

We are proud ofour two apprentice finalists in the DEL Skillbuild Apprentice of the Year2015.Stephen Smyth was competing in the joinery section whilst Dale Calderwood was competing in plastering and drylining. Feedback on both from their Belfast Met tutors and our own FLYNN supervisors was excellent.

Three of our apprentices took part in the Belfast Met Apprentice of the Year Awards with great success:

• Stephen Smyth–came 1st place in Joinery
• DaleCalderwood–came 1st place in Plastering
• Kevin Murray-was very highly commended

Stephen and Dale went on to the Regional Finals.

FLYNN were shortlisted in 3 categories for the EF Construction Excellence Awards. The categories were Training, Environmental Sustainability and Restoration Project.

We are delighted that our own Aidan Flynn was one of 9 Northern Ireland Directors shortlisted to go through to the UK finals this autumn. Aidan was awarded the Young Director of the Year Award by the Institute of Directors in NI towards the end of the previous year and then represented NI in the UK finals in London

FLYNN were delighted to receive the Employer of the Year Award from Workforce Services Ltd. Having developed constructive relations with Workforce, we were very pleased with the commitment and energy of the young people they have placed with us on training and apprenticeship programmes.

FLYNN are delighted that the PSNI Memorial Garden, designed by Belfast architects, Hackett Hall McKnight and constructed byFLYNN, has been recognised by the Royal Institute of British Architects(RIBA).It was one of four projects in Northern Ireland to win prestigious awards. The PSNI memorial garden “radiates a great sense of peace, dignity and stillness”. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI)memorial garden lies within the grounds of PSNI headquarters on Knock Road, and is a mix of oak-panelled walls, beech hedges and dark back-enamelled glass panels. In their citation the judges said: “The new memorial garden overall is an exceptional commemorative space, which radiates a great sense of peace, dignity and stillness.

FLYNN were delighted to be recognised as one of the London Stock Exchange’s ‘1000 Companies to Inspire Britain’. Their recent report is a celebration of some of the fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK. As well as identifying 1,000 companies, the publication examines in detail the opportunities and challenges facing SMEs and looks at the sectors and trends that will shape the future of the UK economy

This prestigious award recognised Aidan’s contribution to growing the family business which he has done through strategic decisions regarding markets, organisational structures and no small amount of commercial acumen.

FLYNN were honoured to accept the 2013 Award for Quality in respect of Training. The prestigious judging panel included the Chief Executive of the Health and Safety Executive, Chairman of IOSH and principal from DEL. The guest speaker was the Minister for Finance and Personnel who signalled his support for the construction sector and his desire to see tentative signs of recovery consolidate and grow

FLYNN were delighted to receive the ‘Employer of the Year’ award in recognition of our ongoing support of apprenticeships and training programmes with Springvale Training and Learning dating back many years. This is an important aspect of our growing business to ensure we have the right mix of skilled staff, appropriately trained and experienced in our fast-moving maintenance environment.

FLYNN were delighted to have been shortlisted by the CEF in 4 categories for Construction Excellence.

Our two nominated projects were; a high specification memorial garden and the refurbishment and extension of Bangor Hospital. We were also shortlisted for our Health & Safety systems and for our Training

Maurice Flynn & Sons Ltd, a leading maintenance contractor based in Dunmurry received its Investors in People award at a ceremony in Hillsborough Castle. Managing Director, Aidan Flynn who had sponsored the company’s implementation of the IIP programme said “as a result of the continuing growth of our company, a range of development needs were identified and addressed such that we are already seeing improvements in the delivery of services and levels of engagement with our people. This investment in our people will underpin our business as we continue to grow and become increasingly effective and efficient.”

FLYNN were delighted to have received a prestigious recognition from the Build Health NI Award Scheme 2012 reflecting the robust planning and implementation of safety and health initiatives on our DRD sites. We were grateful tot he DRD Roads Service for nominating our company and working so positively together to promote health and safety.
